MY STORY with TECHNOLOGY

by TOMAS ERIKSSON

For me, one of my most memorable moments with technology was a dreaded walk in the Besseggen Mountains in Norway during a business management trip. Wise from previous trips I knew this walk could be a challenge, with my fear of heights and especially my colleague’s current state of mind.

It started early in the morning with a nice boat trip to the start location of the walk. We all brought a backpack filled with food, snacks and beverages, which should be enough for the estimated eight-hour walk. Of course the walk started upwards 1000 height meters, but all in all the first seven hours of walking upwards and downwards in the Besseggen Mountain environment was quite pleasant. It all changed when we arrived to the last stage of the walk, where we had to climb a 400 meter high mountain ridge in a wind speed of 20 m/s.

Four Sigma Technology employees are stuck on a mountain in Norway, it is already cold, and frankly we will not survive a night on the mountain without any supplies or place to sleep.

To make the story short, my fear of heights stopped me approximately 20 meters up the ridge where I lost my conscience, and me together with three other colleagues were not in any way able to climb the mountain ridge. And it is at this moment I really knew why I love to work at Sigma Technology and what technology is for me.

Four Sigma Technology employees are stuck on a mountain in Norway, it is already cold, and frankly we will not survive a night on the mountain without any supplies or place to sleep. Two heroes (Klas and Joakim) decided to solve the situation at hand and they guided us back seven hours to the starting point of the walk. At the same time, the rest of the colleagues arranged (not without difficulty) for a boat to pick us up to a safe return. Not to exaggerate, Klas and Joakim maybe saved my life that day.

For me, working at Sigma Technology means that you will have colleagues, who always stand at your side, at work or outside work, even save your life.

For me, technology is about innovation, even if it is to solve the problem of getting four exhausted colleagues down from a mountain.

  • I was born at the dawn of the USSR. The Cold War was long over. Technology was slowly "dying" in my country. Spaceships kept flying but housewives had to wash clothes by hand boiling it over and over hoping that at least some stains would disappear. Teachers would have to walk from class to class carrying lots of charts and maps.
